重要新聞，來自日本：中国の二輪車輸出台数が世界第２位に
【上海支局】中国の新華社電によると、昨年1年間の中国の二輪車輸出台数は344万台で、日本に次いで世界第2位になった。生産台数は1300万台で、世界全体の約半分を占める。多くは国内市場向けに出荷しているが、国際的な価格競争力が向上していることから、一部のメーカーは輸出に力を入れ始めた。主な出荷先はベトナムを中心とする東南アジアやアフリカ。特に最近ではアフリカ向けが急増している。

太可惜了，許多珍藏在伯明罕 National Motorcycle Museum 的無價之寶竟然毀於大火。
BBC: Fire destroys motorbike collection
Fire has destroyed much of the National Motorcycle Museum near Birmingham, ruining 650 vintage machines and leaving 60% of the building a blackened shell.
Investigators are at the scene on Wednesday to begin an inquiry into the cause of the fire.
The value of the destroyed bikes is put at £8m, but many of the machines are irreplacable.

Small businesses considering the implications of the newly-published guidelines from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are now being offered a no-cost audit from IAM Fleet.
HSE’s generic guidance for employers on work-related road safety has stopped short of recommending new legislation on corporate killing. Instead the guidance aims to alert employers to the driver safety issues when developing risk management policies.

因為 bitflux 上的一則 entry(Mobile Phones in France)，讓我跑到日本總務省統計局去找資料，同時間比對台灣行政院主計處和中華人民共和國國家統計局的網站(excellent example)看了一下。主計處的網頁，無論是在 information depth 和 navigational structure 的表現上，都只有小學生用 frontpage 作網頁的水準。天啊，這是我看過最沒有用的國家級統計網站。

Taipei 101 的竄起
來自 Skyscraper’s Page: Taipei 101 is currently the official world’s tallest building. Its spire, currently under construction, overtook those of the Petronas Towers (452 meters) sometime during the week of August 10-16, though visual confirmation was unavailable until August 22.
More information and the discussion forum. The building will also contain the world’s two fastest elevators, traveling at 1000m/min from the lobby to the observation deck on the 89th floor.

歐盟開始測試 GPS 協助之道路救援服務
在 “Pay-as-you-go motoring just around the corner,” 歐盟太空總署(ESA)表示如果高速公路的道路救援服務能夠以 GPS 定位計算里程，那麼托吊的費用將會更為合理：
Experiments are currently under way in Ireland, Portugal and Germany, before an extension to other countries. Potential benefits of such a road tolling system would be fairer implementation of charging on a ‘pay for use’ basis. All these experiments are using the US-operated Global Positioning System (GPS). But in 2010, when the system is fully implemented, it will use Galileo, scheduled to be operational by 2008.
