幫年齡小一輪以上的舍妹，開了一個帳號，網址為 Casalatte.org。年輕的聲音，年輕的語言，為部落格注入新的生命，也趁機 claim「the Youngest blogger in Taiwan」的 title。相信不久後，Casalatte 上會有不少年輕的女孩子，運用部落格，吶喊出她們的聲音。到時候我會幫她們架一個獨立的 MT 平台。

我沒有對這幾個領域做嚴謹論述的能力(真是慚愧)，因此這篇純為「漁」樂。原諒我的斷章取義。 緣起：platin 部落格中的〈Quantum Zeno Effect〉一文

後設媒體批評所批評的對象不只在於媒體批評，而可以涵蓋了媒體、媒體批評與後設媒體三者。後設概念還可以無限擴大，還可以進一步發展後設後設批評，以致更多的後設批評角度。但雖然無限擴大，但也是無窮的回歸，因為後設媒體批評，也是媒體。

昨天在閱讀兩則新聞時，聯想到目前自己準備teleworking(遠距工作)所可能面臨的問題。分別是「Teleworking in the UK?」- 討論遠距工作在英國的可能性，還有「Satellite Internet Connection?」這一個討論串。

要走遠距工作時所先面臨的問提就是網路的申請和頻寬是否充足。對於長年居住在市區的其他工作者來說，這問題或許不大。但我會待的地方多半是在山區，不然就是位處網路建設邊陲的鄉鎮地帶。中華電信的條約中規範ADSL申裝地之距離不得超過四公里，溢此範圍若欲申裝，則連線品質不予保證，或是在臨櫃申請時就會被刷了下來。這下可好，我這邊四點五公里若無有線頻道系統業者和和信或是東森簽約，那不就只有硬和華信槓上，乞求派員來安裝的份？

Wirelss.org.au 上有人成功在愛麗思泉(Alice Spring)架設共用的satellite connection。Sounds nice，因為我心中只想著在1993年在澳洲內陸的那段影像：隔離萬般人物的塵沙還有望涯無邊天際線。可是呢，我人以台灣為base，那這個方案可行性不是幾乎等於零？

其他的選擇？跟民家合作，架個指向性天線，然後再shoot across the river? 還是考慮購買類似Vivato的wireless switch？

之前在部落格的圈子中，曾經出現了好一些讓部落客們集體注意力轉移的事件。我還記得最為明顯的例子是當 Dan Gillmor 在SiliconValley.com 的專欄中首度揭發無所不在的 Google.com 預計買下 Pyra Labs，也就是 blogger.com 背後母公司的訊息時，突然整個部落圈大約停頓了十幾分鐘。貼文後傳送 ping 到 weblogs.com 上的文章瞬間大為減少。想必是，所有聽到這個消息的部落客們，先將新聞讀完之後，按耐不住傾印的衝動。沒法不書，於是開始大寫特寫。 在 “Google Buys Pyra Labs" 的這一個例子中，注意力的轉移，瞬間橫跨了幾乎所有的時區。至於對於這新聞的注意力週期，則因為媒介的不同而有所差異。網路上瞬間爆出巨量新聞流大約有三天的高峰。在接下來的大約一周內，是定期每日出刊平面媒體的競逐報導，例如 New York Times 和英國的 the Register。

瞬間轉移所有注意力的影響，我們也可以在 blog.elixus.org 上看到小規模的體現。昨天聯合報「新聞授權方案」，從最早可追溯的新聞發布到我這一篇的回應，也不過半天多的光景。以 blog.elixus.org 輻散出去的新聞半徑，在目前為止大約「斷跨」了四到五個不連續時區。那麼，針對這一件事，我們的注意力週期是？

我想，利用注意力週期的不同曲線而所做的新聞發布動作，是一門藝術/術數。在類似部落格展現出來類似P2P的隱約架構下，要有策略性的指導作為，不是很簡單的一件事。可是在在今天的 GMSV 上，我看到了：

Media giants scan new menu hungrily: As expected, the Federal Communications Commission voted 3-2 along party lines today to ease the rules on media ownership, a moved opposed by a diverse group of lawmakers, and consumer and advocacy groups who fear that further media consolidation will make it more difficult for minority viewpoints to be heard.

這讓我想起注意力週期過於陡峭可能對於組織結構性的反抗會 post 上很大的限制。剛好，Dan Gillmor 在知悉 FCC 的表決結果後，也做了以下的表示：

“We, the people, need to understand what’s happening, and why. Then we need to get angry. We need to get organized, and take the fight back to the halls of power."

是的，你為什麼不生氣？但是我又自問：「如果我生氣，那我的生氣週期曲線是不是和接收新聞的週期曲線綁在一起？所以我生什麼氣？那我要如何生氣才會有效率」？

另一則來自德國 der Spiegel 的消息。布萊梅大學(Universität Bremen) 發展出一套以 audio blogging 模式為主的，結合手機和語音輸入，將所有人納入新聞產製過程的 freeporter 計劃。所有的參與者在產製新聞同時，也可以決定自己要接收什麼樣的資訊。A step closer to 3G blogging? 有興趣的人可以從 Matrix Public Network(English) 得到更進一步的資訊。

UDN.com(Taiwan), one of the largest media conglomerate in Greater China region, issues a controversial licensing policy which explicitly states that any websites involved in news reproduction, abstraction, or even “copying" an exact quote of it’s headline titles from UDN would have to obtain UDN’s “u2u approval" first. The fees for “rights-managed" news are based on a specific criteria: total print run, distribution, intended use, etc. This policy applies not only to public website owners but also newsletter publishers. Strong concerns regarding UDN.com’s new decision are being voiced among Taiwanese bloggers, and some even think it’s a blackmail call to the domestic public.

Another big brother at the parody play is Chinatimes.com, where I find it’s user agreement is obviously an attempt to adopting identical business model.

Blog跟英語教學研究計劃 (JSCET)

網路已經改變大部分人的學習型態；英語學習是其中一個改變最顯著的學習領域，這是一個新的虛擬烏托邦超連結文本的世界，人們可以無限的學習自我成長，卻不需要花上任何一毛錢，當然先決條件需要有基本的電腦軟硬體配備；另一方面網路改變學生尋找學習資料跟老師的行為，十幾歲的英語系國家小孩可能是你英文聽說讀寫的老師，本研究主要在探討如何善用網際網路的特性讓英語教學更為生動活潑且更具實用性。例如，如何使用電子郵件學習英語，學生對於網路學習英語的實際接受度為何？[實施此種教學的學習評量工具為何？如何營造特殊的網路英語學習環境？實施這種學習方式的必要跟充分條件為何？這份行動研究不僅理論更利用認證中文網站來做實證，加上前人的研究，相信對於自己往後的英語教學跟網路與英語教育的關係必定有極大的助益。

相信英語文教育曾經是許多人的愛與痛。在英語學習雜誌滿天飛，商家大喇喇宣稱，運用「數位多媒體」可以改善教學情境，寓教於樂，並且誘發K-12教育體系下學生學習英語文動機，加強英語深入日常生活的時代中，這一個新型態的部落格可能會面臨什麼樣的挑戰、門檻，還有必須克服的「使用慣性」？非英語系的教育部落格資源中，有沒有類似的教學計劃以玆借鏡？在教學上 Underlining platform 番新的同時，instructors 是否已經對於這個技術的潛力和限制，有所預想和心理準備？

The immediate response from one student: »I don’t see a need for that.«. Why is it that some people see the immediate appeal of it while others think it is pure overhead? There seems to be conflicting mental models about the whole weblogging hype. [Oliver Werde]e>在K12教育架構不鼓勵buttom-up learning 的情況下，計劃階段性告成後，經驗要如何 port 出去？這是不是 top-buttom 的教學引領，還是容許 buttom-up 的自主學習？但是，沒有先「上而下」的引領，哪來的「下而上」的自主？價值意義可以如何定位？Sebastian Fiedler 的這一段話讓我想到了一個可能的詮釋：

If we follow the assumption that learning-to-learn requires an awareness of the processes whereby meaning is created and that we usually gain control over mental processes via linguistic and symbolic “handles" it becomes clear that a lack of (process) language for learning greatly limits our outer and inner (learning) conversations. Without such conceptual tools we simply have a hard time to converse with ourselves and others about how our patterns of meaning can be (re-)constructed, tested, and brought under review.

教育部落格可以作為承擔孕育「學習語言」的平台(sounds good, but second thought renders it as far out?)。

Jim McGee 對於在 educational setting 和 industrial setting 上使用部落格的觀察：

The structural problem is educational settings modeled on industrial lines, which measure a peculiar kind of productivity. This creates and perpetuates an environment of experts with secret insights to be learned. Better to create an environment where all are experts and learners at the same time. As a learner, I want to have a way to tap into experts, who might be anyone who knows more than I do right now and is willing to provide some pointers. As an expert, I want to have other learners around who help me explicate my expertise by asking questions I’ve forgotten and seeing problems I no longer see.

Anyway，今天又收到 besttang 的第六期另類教育電子報。

在前面的「我和你買的書之間有什麼關聯性？」一文中，我提到了Eric Promislow 所寫的 Amazing Baconizer。Eric 在 Amazon Associates 的論壇中表示對於 tmjiang 在前文的 followup 所指出的 database marketing 和 baconizer 間的討論很有興趣，不過因為是中文，所以造成溝通上的障礙。他表明寫這支程式的原意純脆出自於樂趣，沒想到 Jon Udell 卻點出了可能的商業運用途徑。Eric 後來捎封信過來，徵詢中文使用圈的意見。我一直很想對那篇文章，還有前面「分散式圖書流通」中小野花的留言做一併做個回應。不過可能又要等到週末了。

Sanbeiji.com (三杯雞.com！) 是 Joe Lewis 所架設的部落格。這個有趣的邂逅因緣來自於上個禮拜的某日，不知道是在Daypop.com還是網站右側的"Fagan Finder"中搜尋關鍵字"taiwan sars who"後，一頭栽進去的好站。Joe 在信件中告訴我說：

I noticed some of your posts related to Tufte. I do a lot of technical illustration and love his books. I have all three books and attended his seminar earlier this year. Good stuff – although I don’t agree with everything he says, his writings and examples help me a lot.

看來正如 deadhead 提醒我的，Edward Tufte 真是大師了。

另外，Joe 在他的評論中說到，WHO 將台灣排除於觀察員討論大會的做法相當不明智。他的看法，無論讀者同意與否，都有參考的價值。

美東大型的 internet service provider(ISP) NAC.net 在當地時間(05/28)早上十點左右掛點，官方說法為：「NAC 公司在紐澤西州 Parsipanny 的 B 棟大樓 UPS(緊急供電系統)無法運作，火警預警系統因不明原因而啟動。消防隊員抵達後，儘速將區域電力完全切斷，而所有工作人員也馬上全部撤離。」據估計，影響範圍廣達美東各區域的中小型ISP和所有的下游顧客，人數可能高達百萬以上。如果妳有收不到信或是連往美國速度減慢的狀況，或許可以歸咎於這個原因。
